Dermacne Philosophy

At Dermacne we are committed to following MHRA and legislative guidelines. We cannot exist as a service without this. We would ask that you understand this. It is not a choice for your prescriber. It is a legal requirement.

Dermacne was created as a service as we are fully aware that access to oral isotretinoin is prohibitively difficult under the current system within the NHS. This is due to numerous factors such as:

  1. Economic pressures in the UK healthcare system that lead to effective management of conditions such as acne, rosacea and sebaceous gland pathologies being assigned a low priority
  2. Low number of dermatologists per head of UK population
  3. Antiquated and paternalistic ideology regarding appropriate prescription of oral isotretinoin
  4. Failure to understand the longterm psychological and mental disease caused by skin conditions such as acne, rosacea and sebaceous gland pathology. These conditions and their impact on the patient have been trivialised
  5. Poor information and non-evidence based scaremongering that puts patients off what is a very effective longterm treatment and cure for conditions such as acne, rosacea and sebaceous gland pathologies.
  6. Manipulative of these scaremongering tactics to prescribe costly, high profit and ineffective cosmesceutical and device based solutions as an alternative to evidence based safe and effective treatment with medication.

Oral Isotretinoin is a safe and highly effective drug for all patients when used under appropriate medical supervision.

Summary of the Dermacne Philosophy

  • Dermacne is committed to providing patients with choice instead of an antiquated paternalistic approach when it comes to oral isotretinoin prescription.
  • We understand that appropriate choices can only be made when a patient is informed adequately and appropriately. This is why an initial consultation is an imperative part of the process.
  • At Dermacne we are not here to tell you that your condition is not serious enough to warrant treatment with oral isotretinoin. There is a patient subjectivity to this decision that cannot be ignored as the patient lives with the problem.
  • If oral isotretinoin therapy is deemed appropriate by your prescriber Dermacne is committed to you making an informed choice and ensuring you are safe and guideline compliant throughout the duration of your treatment.
